Anyone done it ? whats difference between operator and supervisor when you can sit either attending the same course?
is the test at the end difficult?

Thanks for the reply , I’m intending to do it with my right hand man , would you recommend we both do the operatives or 1 operative and 1 supervisor . We wouldn’t be doing any jobs where we would have loads of guys more likely road crosssings and verge works . We would need to give details to council though for road permits . Would that require supervisor ?I've done the operatives one. Never been asked for supervisor so haven't done it as shave sssts instead.
An operative can do the work and supervise 2 blokes without street works. A supervisor can't do the work but can supervise more people without street works. To get work signed off you need an operatives ticket but not a supervisor.
The course and test is easy.

Sounds like the supervisors course is a waste of time then !You might have to check with your local council but we have no street work supervisors, bear in mind we have 6 street work gangs out today. And all our work gets signed off. You can't work without a street works operative on site though. So if you where to do a supervisor course you would need to do the operative course as well. Supervisors are not allowed to do the work unless they hold an operative card as well.
Maybe more relevant if you are working for Balfour Beatty and widening a motorway with 50 guys on siteSounds like the supervisors course is a waste of time then !
I think down in Aberdeenshire we need someone as a supervisor, doesn’t necessarily have to be on site at all times but must be named in the permit.Sounds like the supervisors course is a waste of time then !

1 person having both ?Gloucestershire Highways require you to have both for a dropped kerb.
Same with our local council too.Gloucestershire Highways require you to have both for a dropped kerb.
If there's 2 of you 1 can have operative and other can be supervisor.1 person having both ?
Or 1 with op and 1 with supervisor?

Yeah but it satisfies the local council requirements and keeps cost down especially if theres only 2 people. If your only doing drop kerbs there done in a day and the supervisor is the one that nips off to pick the tar up ect.But if the operative leaves site the supervisor can't work. But the operative can work unsupervised.
It's most ridiculous as there is nothing in the course about vco's it's all about trench work. And the vco has to be built using the standard design of your LA regardless. Then at a certain stage you have to submit an engineers design for approval. Which is all highly irrelevant to the streetworks and far closer to construction work.
