starting handle.

Funny storey but not really at the moment. Lost a starting handle today. I think the engine is a petter 2 cylinder with what looks like a 1 1/2" diameter crank. It turns clockwise to start. The crank also has a key.
The old handle was quite long (longer than others i've seen online) and had a sprung piece which went into the key when turning clockwise but not the other way. This meant when the engine started it didn't rip your hand off.
Any ideas where to find one or get one made?
Cheers

yeh plenty online now I look. Hoping they're the same radius/handle length to make it easy to crank. Be nice to measure the old one but obviously can't do that now. Needs to have the anti kickback thing though i.e. lets spin anti clockwise but catches the key clockwise
any guesses for how i lost the olden?!

I had some wheels/tyres off him to keep as spares, probably was about 10 years ago now. He seemed to be helpful, and had a good stock so should be able to help the OP out.

When I needed a handle for a mixer I acquired with a Petter engine I did not know if the engine worked so did not want to spend out buying a handle.

My solution was to make one. Hope I have managed to attach the right photos 😀

I just take a look at a particular search or group of items and hit ending soonest in the menu for order of viewing ... and see what comes up ..... it's surprising what comes up with no bids and a cheap start :giggle::giggle: .... no real system as such and luck of the draw ..... but you can keep an eye on stuff you're interested in too and be patient ;).. see if it gets bid on .... and if it doesn't ;):giggle: ... also surprising how many speeling erros get through too :LOL:
had 30 no., ER32 collets the other day for the start bid of 28 quid .... they'm usually 6-12 quid each ... that was a lucky one (y)

the DV 40DIN collet chuck was a tenner  --- can be anywhere between 50 and 200 quid new depending on make .. that's a Laip (y):) .. decent enough 'breed'
aaaaand .... 32 DA180 collets, to suit that chuck I had for a fiver, the other day, for 26 quid .... bargain (y)
