Repairs to Excavator Buckets & Pin holes

Hello I wondered if you guys could give me some clarity on what goes on. As excavators are pricey bits of kit I assume that they are covered by a warranty. In practical terms once the original warranty expires do plant hire companies pay to buy an extended warranty or wait for the kit to develop a fault and pay for the repair instead ? I am asking the question because my ex JCB machinist mate is setting up a mobile line boring service to repair bucket and pin hole bores on excavators, telegandlers etc.

I always find it very cheap to extend a three year warranty to five years if you do it when buying new.

However pins and bushes are wear items, and as such wear of them is not covered by warranty. Line boring is generally only needed after thousands and thousands of hours if greased correctly. Main wear points are also generally bushed, which are easy to replace.

Thanks for your comments - my pal is set up to make bushes and pins and also do welding ops - he will be interested to know that bushing would likely be the first option.

Line boring/bush freezing and fitting used to be a big earner, used to work for a firm based in the n east, two other firms Cumbria and barnsley working all over, they worked on loads of mining gear including the rh200s,o&k's made these three firms lots of money with cracked booms/dippers,bucket refurbs in general.
These days there's quite a few outfits round the country do it,but the market, virtual end of opencasting, size of job, firms changing gear more often is a lot tighter these days

Thanks for your comments - there must be a lot of firms at it - my pal did reckon mines and quarries could still be worth a look - I will pass your comment on to him later.
