Very saddened to hear about Chris Hoys bad news today. Always comes across as such as a nice bloke. s**t deal allround for his family.
He’s only 4 years older than me and was once one of the fittest men on the planet.
Take nothing for granted, and probably not a bad idea to get yourself off down for a PSA blood test every few years.
Our local sports clubs host charity PSA tests quite regularly. Takes about £20 and about the same number of minutes for a quick blood test.

the issue with all PSAs is they're not very accurate - lots of false +ve and --ves ... it is a very tough one to spot, with any precision, until it has a hold :(:(

" The accuracy of a PSA test is far from perfect While it can help detect prostate cancer early, it may also indicate other conditions such as infection or inflammation of the prostate One in seven men with a normal PSA level may actually have prostate cancer, and in 2% of men, that cancer is aggressive

The NHS estimates that 3 in 4 men with a raised PSA level will not have cancer. PSA testing can also miss about 15 percent of cancers. "

I read - a lot, Kev ..... usual story - MSM puts the propaganda out there and it's then up to you to find the truth ... lot of it out there - if you look -- much of that is NHS facts and figures  and plenty of other reliable sources

case in point:-
two close friends of mine, both 2 yrs older than me ...
both get themselves tested religiously ...
one has had a couple of false positives, in the last three years ...
worried for sod all

T'other has been negative for years, until three months ago he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, has spread to his pelvis and bladder - incurable :( - will have treatment to slow growth (hopefully) and monitoring ..
consultant offered him a prognosis, which he declined ....
" I don't intend ticking dates off a calendar, for the time I have left " was how he put it to me, when he told me

they have both continually nagged me for years to 'join the testing cohort' ....
not for me, ta

I've already had one terminal diagnosis in my life - 6 to 12 mths - which was wrong .. that's enough 😳

My dad had a false PSA test too, only positive out of it was he then got a MRI which ruled cancer out, only inflammation which was sorted in under a week with correct meds.
So I wouldn’t not go for a PSA test!

I average two full body scan MRIs a year Dave ... they've already found a Schwanoma tumour on my conus, that has no indications, (as yet, well almost none ) of being there/any issues ... 99% are benign apparently - op to remove it is a 50/50 on being able to walk after it ... carry on 'til I can't/it gives problems  .... pretty sure they'd have spotted anything else too (y)
