Looks not bad bit of kit, and pretty reasonably priced too. The staff is worth the extra

My colleagues have something that sounds very similar on there iPhones. Not even app 8 don't think. They open the camera click on a point then walk around essentially filming the site and click on the finish point. It is amazingly accurate when we have tried it. Can do small objects to without moving the phone.

had one a while, very handy bit of kit for rapidly quantifying an irregular area for materials. While it doesn't replace a laser it does a different job.

Great idea, works ok, but not as accurate as they say. You have to be really careful with how you use it and as a result its not very trustworthy for measuring up jobs.

Anyone have any updates on using these?
Are they worth? It would be handy being able to map all the new services on the next job

was nagged to death about how great they are a while back. Then one day we demoed it and i wasnt sold tbh.
Maybe good for some things, but a lot of money as an experiment.
we set out pads for portable buildings and its not suited to levelling accurately. But they still considering them for us over the best tool cos they r blinded by techno.
If you go down that route, get a spare android phone to use with it because the whole world will call you when you put yours into the staff holder..:)

I see they say they can do volumes. Would they be accurate enough for concrete. Or even tarmac. Do they measure to the mm or round it to 10mm or even 50mm.

Not sure but they show they can calculate piles so if you do muck away or need to work out odd areas they look good

Can’t see the need for them easy enough to price on rough m2 as long as over in your favour, measure for material etc just split into rectangles then work out the bits left over or use google earth etc where can map m2 on it

Lots of uses for it. Especially with more complicated concrete or tarmac shapes. I've been way more than the price of a moasure out with tarmac delivers on funny wavey shapes before.
It also can link into auto cad to create as-built drawings. If you do that kind of thing it would be cheaper than using an engineer or buying a total station
