There is a lot of clowns on all of the cpcs and CSCS sites. Most want top money for nothing and not willing to do anything but sit in the seat. Same for the labourer sites bitch and moan when the agencies offer 11-12.50 then when adds up for 15+ no work shy idiot applies

The plant operator pages are hilarious. Problem is these are real people that actually have the same mentality once they get on site. The attitude is unbelievable. And they can't start before 8 and knock of at 3 and need a company van and need to use it at weekends for personal use. And in return they won't grease it won't get out and help won't dig the tracks out.

It's ok though because those who think they are above the job are the first to be sat at yam when the pinch comes.

Not many areas getting the rate you or doobin have been getting.

It's all area dependant, some will see a micro out for 200 and others 300+
Here's the thing if you base ur money on the machine unless there's a glut of work in the area and no one to do it you'll be dragged down to what everyone else is charging. I don't care whether I'm on micro or 9 ton rates the same (plus diesel on top) cos it ain't just the digger you're getting it's me on it and all the other gear that comes with me (cat genny levels etc).
In an ideal world you need to have some knowledge of everybody else's job on site that you may be working in with or doing work which they will be following on from. Rather than laying out a load of money you'd be better off getting some experience working for someone else first.

after ALL your costs, etc.? ...
most them boys carry a bag of tools to the job ...
not knocking anyone Ollie, just thought that it was an interesting 'report' ...
Yes! I'm not sure I would want to pay myself to run a business for any less? Not now its established at least. Granted it wasn't always that way. As the business owns and pays for all the tools, transport, and fuel to site, I'd say I'm actually probably up on the guy who's had to buy a sprit level and a trowel.
Except for the hours.....
I work many many more hours than the regular trade guy - which when you equate to an hourly rate puts me well behind no doubt.
But the business also makes profit... which I could choose to take as extra wage if I wanted to so....
Watch this space for my new Ferrari coming soon

And I know you wouldn't get out of bed for £50, I wasn't implying you would, but back in 05 I did for a couple of years. But think those rates are gone for good now - and rightly so. However the skilled guys I was with were on just over double that. So with labourers on £100/day now (if you're any good) then seems right the skilled tradesman should be on upwards of £200/day.
Bad people are not improved by more money - the fact that they go on facebook/ linkedin to complain and or show off about what they will or wont do is very funny and I let Rory rip into and educate them on the facts of life. But as has already been pointed out, they are the first ones looking for a job now.
most machine drivers won't get out of bed for less than 250 a day and a go on the bosses wife.
@Smiffy Can you forward the details of this job please, could do with an extra smile in the mornings

To be fair I used to have different rates for different bits of kit. now all my gear costs roughly the same and give or take uses similar fuel L per hour I just have the same rate for everything, but in fairness my work has changed vastly over the last 5 years, mainly because I don’t really do a lot for anyone else at the moment!

So those with a micro/1.5t and a 3t both machines out for the same rate?

@Gunners can't even get labourers these days for £100, it's a joke. Even the most useless, lazy tool still want more than that and to top it off they don't even drive. It's unbelievable really, these guys are mid to late 20's no driving licenses and no interest and it's the same for near enough every labourer. Yet my mate has two apprentices, both shortly finishing level 2 in brickwork/carpentry yet both not only have licenses but cars. Fair enough they are living with parents but they get apprentice wages.

Biggest problem I can see in the future is a Labour government in the next 2 years and we go into E U free trade area and open the immigration gates wide open to all eu building workers like they did in 2005 and all construction wages collapsed

The workers that want to be here are already here. The people that are going to be coming in under a labour government will be the ones with no intention of working.

I work with loads of eastern Europeans and don't mind really. I prefer the ones courteous enough to speak English around me. The albanion ganger is terrible. Fortunately his 2 ground workers translate especially if he is trying to be rude without you knowing, which is hilarious.
