Are you planning on hook on ramps or fixed? that will be the biggest effect on fuel.
I would say machinery carrier, built for the job, some platforms have quite a spread between cross members, and thinner decking/boards, not so good for point loading.
Occasionally you can see a machine carrier with a square back, not beavertailed, and hook on ramps, a sort of compromise.

2 heavys parked up at the weekend at the services down the road. A 3 bed 5 and a 2 bed 4 both with crushers

When I was a teenager out on my bike I would have given anything like that a thoroughly good looking at, now I'm all old and properly grown up I don't really have the time ........... which is a pity because only death will stop me doing it 😁
