JCB 8018cts odd problem

Morning all,

I have a JCB 8018cts (2014ish), great little machine and does everything I ask of it. However its developed an issue recently. Basically when you put down the safety lever so you can run the hydraulics it gives me about 1-2 seconds movement and then stops. I have to lift the arm and lower it again to get another 1-2 seconds movement and rinse and repeat. I was hoping for an easy fix of the U shaped safety switch (magnet) under the arm but unfortunately after putting in a new one I get same problem.
The drive works all fine its just the hydraulic side of things. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Daz

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
servo circuit filter (if it has one)

Or the pilot solenoid is defective and getting hot, going to earth, does your 2 speed tracking work?

Hi Mick, yes 2 speed tracks ok. This problem happened last year for a bit but then went away. Its now back. Anyway of checking the state of the solenoid? Thanks

If it has one do you know location? Thanks
if it's anything like the servo circuit system on my duck it'll be somewhere in the region of the servo solenoid valve, but the duck has a very complex servo system, controlling a LOT of main pressure systems

Its the solenoid going. Pain to get at as its also the one you would liven up if you wanted to steal the machine so they make it hard to get at. Easy fix once you can get at it. Give Greenshields a call, get the part number off them for it, a diagram where its located and a quote, then try and find the part cheaper online 😁

Continuity from one side of the coil to the other, if you have any reading when you put one probe on the coil end and the other on the body of the solenoid!

It was the solenoid! I got lucky and took them both off and gave a clean etc, replaced and all works (for now) at least it got me going. Cheers all for the help, especially Mick-the-Fitter !!
I'd get a new one now, as insurance for when it does let you down permanently

So I am waking up this post as the problem has returned! Just to clarify, machine is a 8018cts, 2012 model. After my previous posts I had no issues, I did buy new solenoids and tucked them away. After a period of limited use the problem returned as before. I swapped the solenoids over and still the same problem! I have swapped the solenoid wires over as I believe one of the is for 2 speed tracking but same. I am about to open up the LH arm to check wiring, does anyone know if the safety switch is mechanical or is it the U shaped magnet? if the latter I have swapped that out already. Cheers.

So me thinking I had swapped out the U shaped switch was wrong, it was one of the 3 wires attached to it, it had worn/broke right on the junction into the armrest, impossible to see until I removed it, put the new one I had in workshop on and bingo. I will now sleep well at night.
