Doing it in a lathe seems slow
I bet it would not be that hard to make a tool that you could pull it through albeit with a fair amount of force and it do the hole lot in one go

If the tool is in the chuck, then he’s only got to hold it to stop it rotating. The right angle on the tool and it would feed itself.

I did this a while back, I wouldn‘t need enough to want to bother with power feed.
