do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
there should have been a U clip inserted in the spring chamber 'fore you disconnected it to hold the spring back -- pretty sure i have one here - I'll get you a pic
could try a small ratsh1t strap in the open yoke and round t'other end, but be very wary of your fingers getting in the way

Doesn’t the handle go back further than the spring?
Could you not take the handle off the pivot & attach the spring first? Get abit more leverage on it all..

No doesn’t go back any more. No try’d that but bolt is near 4” long & tight ish to get in as tight to chassis to line up 🤷‍♂️

Just had a look at mine… and I assume you need to release the brakes from the lever too so it lets the handle pull all the way back, thus letting you get the spring back on?

This pin in red?
At your own peril obviously 😂

Compress the spring with whatever you have to hand (high lift jack etc) , wrap baler twine (or similar) through the clevis's, fit to trailer , cut string ....job done 👍

I try’d the baler twine idea first,6 loops and it just snapped them all! Also try’d big heavy duty zip tie with no joy.But got it with dave's idea 👍

I often wonder how those of lesser statute ever get the handbrake to release on an ifor ....... suppose they have already given up, confounded by bits of road grit stopping the coupling from coupling 🤔😅
