Galv Nails

Chap had a new fence next to a site we are at, typical feather edge job. The lads did a right enough job just before Christmas except the nails have all run black. They used a paslode and the nails do look like they are galvanised ring shanked (had to replace a couple pails due to a scaff board not doing what it was told).

I allways thought galved nails were ok for outside, but every one on the run has a little streak underneath. Looks crap.

+1 sounds like a reaction with the wood. Sounds like cuprinol or something like this would cover it up?

Cedar/larch timber cladding always use stainless steel fixings otherwise you get the above issues.

Oak and chestnut have more of a issue with bare metal- the tanins in both woods react leaving black/blue stains. That's why a fresh sawn oak gatepost can have black ripples- from the bandsaw blade.

Despite us getting a bit snow fall here tonight I've fixed up some posts for a fence outside my place. The posts are galv but the rest will be wood. Nothing fancy just treated off saw and I was going to be using the nail gun to stick it all together. Do I need stainless nails or will it not be an issue for this?
