Drink and drugs abuse by plant operators is “a ticking timebomb”

Scotland’s plant owners are demanding action on the “widespread” problem of drug and alcohol abuse by operators. Three years after urging the industry to recognise the scale of the problem, the Scottish Plant Owners Association said there is still no deterrent to prevent operators turning up for work while under the influence.

my stepson used to have a job going around various places of work testing for drink / drugs ... could turn up any where/anytime, as requested by his Co.'s employers and test any/all employees ... in their contract that they agreed to testing .. or no job.
pretty easy to sort if the employers wanted to .. sign up or ship out ... (and'd be a decent way to out the ar*e holes who'd not co-operate -- bye bye) pretty routine in dis. ctr.s / warehousing / all sorts these days, 'cos it's such a big issue

Plenty of w ⚓ s on site in all roles, it's a widespread problem. I had a crushed thumb, lost the nail and broken tip of the bone, due to some drunk idiot.
Reality is if they tested a lot of sites either people disappear as soon as the testers come up on site or majority of of staff being fired or more than likely transferred to a different site.
Seen plenty of crap over the years from people squirrelling bottles of vodka away or having to get cigarettes on the way to work and picking up a 4 pack then the same again on the way home to be dropped at the pub and none of that includes anything they smoke or stick up their nose

has always been the same, but anyone who thinks there's a possibility of being tested, any time might be deterred or not even be there. .... I used to have one guy who'd regularly turn up stinking of booze .. sent home unpaid ... or he'd go down the pub in his lunch hour ... sent home unpaid for the afternoon .... he was a danger to my other blokes, me, my equipment/facilities and most importantly my customers. The booze eventually got the better of him and he stopped turning up altogether :( .. was a good bloke, sober .... 'nother one was into the ketamin ... he was a liability, full stop and went, soon as :mad:
As for disappearing .... when Josh used to arrive the sites were locked down and short of climbing perimeter fences, they were found and tested ... some Co.s even ran fire alarm practices to assemble everyone  anyone who should've been present and wasn't went automatically, apparently

in the sixtys working at Felixstowe docks the Derrick drivers all had liquid lunch in the ships but in the seventies going to pub drinking at lunch had mostly disappeared but I started to notice the wacky bacci was on site followed by harder drugs but seems like drinking has come back

There are some companies using a fingerprint test nowdays. They seem quite expensive at a quick glance tho..
A friend of mine on HS2 has been tested twice recently. One showed up paracetamols as a substance and he was suspended while the
'B' test went to a lab for a second check. it took 3 weeks and he could not work in that time.Self employed, so a short month..
But came back as paracetamol so proven clean.(y)

Coming back through the Hindhead tunnel on the bike last night around eleven some tosser in an old shitbox cut me up to overtake at 60, then almost hit the kerb. When I went past him I got a face full of waccy baccy. I pulled the bike over after the tunnel to call it in, hopefully they pulled him but no idea.
