DIY workshop tools: the workbench

an important element for a workshop corner is the bench, perhaps with a vise for doing dismantling assembly adjustment work, to create a welding station. some advice to make one in economy, what measures and materials to use to build a robust and functional suggestion? thanks to those who want to provide advice and suggestions

Built loads of them out of scrap wood taken out of skips. It’s amazing what some people throw away! I got a dozen 10’ lengths of 2x4 out of one yesterday.

thanks precious advice, I need as a workbench for blacksmith, as a place to weld cut metal limestone, to beat us over as sturdy anvil, so I would make a sturdy metal platform, to be obtained from sheet metal, as feet upright I could use metal pipes type pipe carpentry for scaffolding and scaffolding, what do you think? I must also bolt a sturdy grip

all of these will not help when using G clamps at their edges to clamp work down .... you need a few cms of over hang , but needs to be thick enough not to bend, so if using a 6mm top, double up the edges with some angle, toes out, say 75 x 75 x 6 or 8mm and fit your legs inside the down standing angle leg , inset from the edges

also add a few cross ribs to stiffen the top - say 50 or 75 x 6mm, on edge

LOL ... just seen this after posting the previous ..... why doesn't anyone do a decent job of 'letting in' angle corner joints
think you'll find the above suggestion about 3 times quicker to make ........ as for materials ... it's all there .... just decide on a top plate size and the rest will go to that .... I wouldn't go any thinner than a 6mm top for fabricating on and if bigger than 2m x 1m, use 8mm minimum

My main fab benches in my old workshop were 12mm tops x 3m x 1.5m - 2 no to form 6m x 1.5m

grazie ragazzi per i preziosi suggerimenti sto cercando una panchina già fatta da qualche fabbro o un meccanico che chiude il laboratorio, se non posso riciclarlo nel mercato usato penso che otterrò i materiali giusti e lo costruirò io stesso grazie per i suggerimenti, mi piace l'idea delle tue scrivanie che certamente prenderò in considerazione, se hai altre soluzioni ti invito a scrivere e a inviarle grazie ancora per la tua pazienza e disponibilità

thanks guys for the precious suggestions I'm looking for a bench already made by some locksmith or a mechanic who closes the laboratory, if I can not recycle it in the used market I think I will get the right materials and build it myself thanks for the suggestions, I like the idea of your desks that I will certainly consider, if you have other solutions I invite you to write and send them thanks again for your patience and availability

Thank you for your patience and the right suggestions, I found a pair of them by a mechanic who is dismissing the workshop to redevelop it and reconvert it, it is similar to that of the design you kindly attached, the plan is made with a thick sheet of metal, the upright legs in 80 mm x 3 steel tubes, very robust and heavy, a little one made of 2 mm sheet, I have to take care of transporting them to my garage thanks again

guys pull out the heavy artillery, let's make the kids see who has the biggest pea, apart from the jokes the equipment I had to renew, I also had the tools of my grandfather blacksmith and my mechanical uncle, I had benches with clamps and table shears hammers and hammers of every type and weight. The complete mechanic equipment, the lathes and a large drill, the saw to cut the metals a milling machine too. I'm trying to start over from the little that is left and saved, I hope I'll take it, let me see your equipment courage ... let's save the salvable ....
