Went to visit my dad in hospital yesterday. Couldn't believe they are still making visitors wear masks. Only the blue ones so no actual use stopping airbourne viruses. Had to go to the nursing station to find out where he was and eventually interupted the talk about what they were doing that evening as they were ignoring me. When I looked none of the three were wearing their masks correctly, one only had it over her mouth with her nose exposed.
Am I being stupid using FFP3 masks at work, should I save the money and just get a box of the blue ones? Obviously being a hospital they must be experts on PPE.

They wouldn't operate before Christmas because of the strikes. Then he caught covid (which I did think would finish him off). Once he tested negative they operated and sent him home the next day, only to have to readmit him a day later but there you go. He has had his share of the NHS budget so many times over I'm surprised the don't "accidentally" bump him off.

My dad's similar ... My reckoning he's had well over a million quid off NHS cancer. Heart valve, you name it. But he's paid well over that in taxes over the last 60 years so

same everywhere in NHS though Gra ... I had to wear a mask in the MRI last time I was there ... empty room, on my own, 3ft into a gert tube.

was only thinking the other day that they've spent a few bob on me the last ten years (for which I am truly grateful)
if Trudeau were to get his way they'd have 'offed' the lot of us ...
I have nothing but praise for all the NHS folks (aside from the management parasites) and they should get a decent pay rise, particularly amongst the lower ranks/'foot soldiers' who work their nuts off and are often taken for granted ...
system would not work without them and it needs to be recognised
AND FFS scrap all these bloody 'targets' that must be totally demoralising for them ...
without the funding and feet on the ground, they're never ever going to meet this sh1t

teachers're the same .. more resources required and feet on the ground .. scrap all the crap target sh1t and start paying them for what they do do ..
a hell of a lot more than just classroom time.
I am amazed their unions don't have them working to rule ... system'd grind to a halt ....
might actually get the recognition of how ferked it is, that's needed, then

unless you are wearing a mask rated to stop virus sized particles,
yeah - good luck with that.
An N95 mask should remove at least 95% of all particles with an average diameter of 300 nm.
Trouble is, the corona virus ranges from 60 to 140 nm.

What an N95 mask will catch is droplets of sneeze, snot, spit etc. that carry infections.
This is why you shouldn't reuse masks indefinitely - as the droplets dry out, some of the infectious material may pass through before it has died.

I wish that the complete twat in his apres ski outfit had had the manners to wear a mask in the pharmacy last week. I wonder how many other people he infected with his coughing and sneezing 🤧

It would be quite a good idea to quarantine the blasted skiers on their return to stop them passing on the horrible viruses that they propagate 😡

So blue ones are about as effective as using chicken wire to keep mosquitoes out?🧐

Not quite what I meant.
The N95 masks will catch the airborne droplets of body fluid that in turn contain viral or bacterial material.

To be honest, if someone sneezes in the room, I'd rather not breath it in even if they aren't diseased.

But only if they are properly fitted. Coming back to what I said earlier about nurses in an accute ward in hospital. Not one of the three had their mask properly fitted and one wasn't even covering their nose. Added to that they were only the blue ones which I heard on the radio that a study, I think from Sweden, has shown effectivly shred the moisture droplets carrying viruses enabling them to be less dense and so hang about in the air longer rather than gravity causing them to fall quickly. Not sure of the efficacy of the study, but it seems logical, as everyone masking up sure didn't stop covid spreading.
