Yet another fancy smartphone has bit the dust today  , completely fed up with spending money on fancy fragile flagship phones knacker at least 1 a year so going to try find something a bit more robust - dont want to spend another 500 quid though - anyone had any joy with something rugged that can stand up to our kind of environment ?

Ulefone Armor 6E looked decent ???

Cheers

my Nokia 635 has stood 3, maybe 4 years in my pocket so far and gets a lot of use .... done a lot better than the Samsung Galaxy S3 that preceded it ... but not as good a camera on it as the S3

cheap enough on ebay too

I have a motorala g7 it's every bit as fast for what I need it for but considerably cheaper there are different models of g7 each with an enhanced feature like battery camera processor and so on but there around £125
I put it in a flippy case and it does me perfectly well the rugged phone get lost or driven over just the same as other phones so I don't see the point
I just try to put it somewhere when doing particularly wet or muddy tasks
Just not on top of a tyre like my old boss

I use a CAT S61 now and I had the previous model (S60 I think) beforehand. Bulletproof and at first glance expensive, but when you've broken 2 phones within 3 months (as I did when I first started with Engcon), then it soon pays for itself. There are plenty of others but I needed a dual SIM and this was one of the few at the time that had it. Outstanding battery life (turn off Wifi and it will go for a week). Regularly falls out of my pocket onto the tracks if I'm climbing into a digger and so far (after what must be 2 years) has a couple of very small chips in the glass and a scratch on the case. Recommended (y)

you'd get through a lot of 20 quid phones, 'fore you matched the spend on some of these so say 'tuff-fones' ..... especially if you're in the habit of losing 'em or running 'em over

The rugged phones always tend to be very low spec phones with very few updates.

@V8Druid I had a Lumia 640 was a good performance for the money but unfortunately it was let down by being a Windows phone. I actually liked the operating system but unfortunately not many of the main apps would support windows phone

Trouble is you loose a lot of photos and info on every phone , I always forget to back them up.

This latest one got broken in my trouser pocket when something heavy that pressed against it .... so figured a rugged phone my survive that, one before it went under the digger track  ground was soft though so a decent rugged phone might survive that too

'fraid you lost me at "apps" ..... I don't have mine enabled for 'net ... too bloody small to be much use to me, so don't bother .... can well see that a lot of folks need the facility though ...

I always put my phone in the same pocket and try to rest heavy objects against the other side to try and avoid that
Also I don't like the massive phone they look so fragile

I`ve just got rid of a motorala g7 power, decent size screen, OK camera for what I need, brilliant battery life (for a smart phone), dual sim, but the reception was completely rubbish, no signal at all on the main sim in the yard, the second sim worked ok. Changed the phone for a nokia 7.2 works fine both calls and data, outside on the yard and inside the house, not had a phone reliably receive calls inside for a long time.

Yep ... me Nokia is either on the desk beside me of an evening, beside my bed over night, or in me left trouser pocket .. me left nut is probably fried by now, (not as that matters much at 62  .. and's why I always bet against that one 😂) ... always avoid leaning against my left side, or carrying anything heavy that might kill it.
if i know i'm going to be 'grafting', that might have any detrimental effects on said phone, it goes in a pouch around my neck, well and truly out the way (y)

like the lanyard facility on that .... annoying that more phones don't have an anchor point for a lanyard ... much safer round yer neck

I like doogee tough phones.
My first one (£88) lasted 2 years and survived a 8foot drop off a scaffold to concrete.
My second (£80-£90) lasted a couple months because it got ran over buy several cars. It still worked but screen cracked.
My third (£90) 11 month old now and camera has stopped working but the rest still works.
They are basic smartphones but you can still browse internet and watch videos and they are very tough.

Cat S60... on number two now. the last one lasted just over a year (Average lifespan for my phones is two months!) £360 odd quid but worth every penny.
