Anymore info rory. Size price etc.
They crates are daft money. £150 a m3 🤤

Basically for a Attenuation type soakaway the design needs a surface area and a attenuation volume.

Pipe has a internal volume. The formula for the volume of cylinder is: cylinder volume = π * radius² * height . For a pipe use its length instead of height: pipe volume = π * radius² * length , where radius = inner diameter/2 . The volume of a pipe is equal to the volume of a liquid inside (if a pipe is fully filled with it).

Then there is the surface area for the soakaway which is just the area of the stone surround. Can use whatever size you need.

Thanks. So if i got 600mm twin wall and cut slots/drilled holes in it. What length of pipe would i need for 2m3.
I'm crap at maths 😁

Crates probably work out similar or maybe even cheaper than pipe will be. The annoying thing about the crates is the cost of them when you consider that pop creates used to be easily gotten for nowt.
I don't know where you're pricing creates at but civils suppliers will be cheaper than builders merchants.

Looking at prices on internet. I've got plenty of room so maybe pipes might work if cheaper. Have you got any prices for crates

No last job i had anything to do with them the builder got them. It's rare round me to use soakaways for surface water tbh I've only ever done two. I did one a while ago with conc rings as rory drew above but you don't want to go that route dearer again and then you've got the hassle of handling the rings.

Volume of a 6m length 600 twinwall is about 1.7m3 and it'll be about £300 a length (may find cheaper but not a lot?) So i reckon not a lot in it. At least with crates you can decide how wide deep long you wanna dig

Either option you take it'll be way cheaper than the calibrated outlet fitting for an attenuation tank.

my attenuation storage works a treat on my drains here ......
tank 1 is about 5 ft sq. and 5 ft deep ..... feeds to a.n.other 5ft sq x about 10ft deep, downhill, all fed by 6" & 10" perf.s and exiting through a pair of 4" perf ..... never over topped yet and lets it out at a sensible rate :giggle: ...... there is some run off going into it, but is going to have to be going some to fill 10 cube, (plus pipe runs)

Did one that had to go through building regs and so had to for hydro brake to 4in outlet. £900 for hydro brake! 🙈

Nothing to them tbh but if building control say you gotta use one that's what you gotta use. I wanted to drill a hole in a bung and put it in the end of the pipe but that didn't suit 🤣🤣

with a bit of calc.ing it'd probably have done the same job ... no prob.s (y)

A hydro brake is only a stainless box with a hole in it and a flap valve so you can bypass it gra they even tell you how big the hole needs to be in it 😲
